Overview
‘ACT III’ left me waiting for a moment that never really arrived. Kasabian have always been capable of making music with swagger and impact, but that familiar ‘oomph’ feels in short supply here. There are flashes of something worthwhile, yet they’re too few and far between to make the record particularly memorable. For an album with several singles, I struggled to hear much that felt like an obvious standout. The mix of guitars, electronics and Psychedelic touches gives it plenty to work with, but the songs rarely turn those ingredients into something that grabbed me. It’s difficult to separate that disappointment from knowing just how good this band can be. I kept hoping for a huge chorus or a burst of energy to bring it all to life - and these happened, but came without the hit. Instead, it mostly passed me by, leaving an album I wanted to enjoy far more than I actually did. Hopefully Act IV is a bit better.

Recommended for the Kasabian faithful who’ve still got their old festival wristbands on and haven’t quite given up hope.
