Overview
‘Definitely Maybe’ sounds like a band who already believe they’re the biggest in the world, and frankly, the songs make a pretty convincing case. Oasis arrived with an outrageous amount of swagger, a stack of legendary tunes and the sort of energy that makes you immediately LISTEN. The guitars are messy, angry and piled high, giving those massive melodies a roughness that works ridiculously well. Liam’s sneering vocals cut straight through it all, while Noel’s songwriting turns frustration, ambition and everyday escapism into something thousands of people can shout back together. There’s a real hunger here, with enough heart beneath the attitude to make the quieter moments land too. Even after all the familiarity, it still feels alive and ready to kick the door in. This is absolutely no doubt, one of the best debuts of all time, and a record that defined both a career and an entire era of British music.
Recommended for the Adidas devotees with a pint in hand, ready to shout any singalong possible.

The aura surrounding the album has probably helped make this cover so iconic, but the photograph itself is brilliantly staged. Shot in Bonehead’s house (lovely living room, by the way), it makes a carefully arranged scene feel completely effortless. That relaxed, couldn’t-care-less energy is a perfect match for the band. The classic Oasis logo is chef’s kiss.
