Overview
‘Ox’ is Palace settling comfortably into what they do best, and honestly, its a great place to be. The guitars shimmer, the rhythms take their time when they need to, and Leo Wyndham’s vocals remain the thing that pulls it all together. There’s a beautiful ache to his voice, giving even the most relaxed passages enough feeling to hold your attention. It’s familiar territory, but the band still find little new ways to make it interesting. A melody takes an unexpected turn, a riff wanders somewhere slightly stranger, and suddenly you’re listening a little closer. Those adventurous touches sit naturally within the dreamy atmosphere, adding detail to a formula that continues to work. There’s real pleasure in hearing a band this comfortable with their sound, but able to make it still sound original and fresh - particularly when the musicianship is so consistently good. Another warm, unhurried record that makes putting your feet up and letting your mind drift feel like time well spent.
Recommended for the Palace faithful who just need that angelic voice and a bit of reverb for a good time.

Every Palace album artwork is a continued enjoyable experience. It’s great that Palace keep the project in the family, and continue to get Leo’s brother, Wilm Danby to produce these beautiful album covers. There’s a simplicity to them, but you can’t deny they’re great to look at.
