Overview
‘AUSTIN’ was a pleasant surprise. Post Malone leans further into his love of guitars and Pop songwriting here, sounding comfortable enough to have a little fun with the formula. There are some properly catchy tunes, and the guitar work brings a welcome warmth to the record. It feels more adventurous in places, with acoustic textures and brighter arrangements giving his familiar voice a different setting. His personality is what holds it all together, though. There’s a playfulness that makes the album easy to warm to, even as the writing gets more reflective and the mood occasionally darkens. He can sound like he’s having a laugh one minute and quietly working through something the next, and those shifts feel natural. The more mature moments give it substance, while the melodies keep things moving. An enjoyable change of pace, with enough charm and memorable hooks to make it a worthwhile listen.
Recommended for the beer pong veterans who would be happy with either a house party or a garden chair.

A simple cover with the same laid-back charm as Post Malone himself. And who doesn’t love a pool and a few palm trees, ay?
