WINDMILL LANE RECORDING STUDIOS

Windmill Lane Recording Studios - Windmill Lane

Overview
The original Windmill Lane Recording Studios site is known as the spiritual cradle of modern Irish Rock and the definitive creative home for U2. Founded in 1978 by recording engineer Brian Masterson, the studio was built inside a gritty, compact former cargo warehouse in Dublin's south docklands. The facility was famous for its tight tracking spaces and a uniquely "dead" acoustic live room that forced engineers to isolate instruments completely, capturing highly punchy, precise rhythm tracks. Serving as a beacon for alternative guitar bands escaping the clinical major-label houses of London, this cramped canal-side facility birthed the signature early sound of the Irish Post-Punk movement before skyrocketing international demand completely outgrew the building's physical capacity in 1990.
