456 Audio

Overview
456 Audio is an independent recording and mixing studio at 120A West Granton Road, Edinburgh, Scotland, run by engineer and musician Niall Sinclair. It has occupied the former Chamber Studio premises since 2023, retaining much of the equipment and instruments from the earlier operation. Sinclair had already spent several years working at Chamber before establishing his own identity within the space. The layout centred on a roughly 27-square-metre live room with hardwood oak flooring, equipped to record a full band together or capture instruments separately. Its control room paired an API The Box II console with Pro Tools HDX, supported by Neve, AEA and Helios-style microphone preamps. The emphasis was on making a well-equipped recording room affordable for independent musicians. Sinclair’s interest in alternative and experimental music shaped an approach that welcomed distorted textures, synthesisers and unconventional processing alongside straightforward band recording. Analogue compressors, guitar-pedal treatments and an Otari two-track tape machine offered further ways to shape recordings beyond the computer.
