STUDIO FRISSON
Overview
Founded in 1993 by Canadian musician, producer, and audio engineer Michel Pépin, Studio Frisson is a highly regarded analogue recording studio originally located in Montreal’s Outremont neighbourhood. During approximately two decades at its original location, the private, low-profile facility developed a strong reputation for its extensive collection of vintage equipment and warm, characterful sound. Its technical centrepiece is a custom Neve 8034/8014 mixing console, accompanied by vintage microphones, tube compressors, a McCurdy AU 300 tube console, and professional multitrack tape machines. Studio Frisson became an important tracking and mixing destination for Canadian Folk, Roots, Indie Rock, and Pop projects, contributing to numerous gold- and platinum-selling releases. Rather than closing, the studio subsequently relocated from Outremont and now continues as Studio C within Alchemist Studios, retaining Michel Pépin, its distinctive Neve console, and much of its original equipment.
