Overview
Established in 2014 by artist, designer, and gallerist Matthew Kellen, Open House Contemporary (OHC) is a hybrid residential art gallery and creative hospitality venue located at 740 North Ogden Avenue in Chicago’s River West neighbourhood. Conceived as an alternative to conventional galleries and short-term accommodation, the 4,200-square-foot property combines three furnished apartments with rotating contemporary art installations. Although not a purpose-built commercial recording studio, its flexible domestic spaces and private atmosphere allow musicians to establish temporary, mobile production environments. The North Ogden location entered recording history when it was used during sessions for some of American Football’s finest albums. Remaining active as OHC’s Chicago flagship, the building continues to function as a gallery, residential retreat, and occasional music-making space.
