THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY
Overview
Established in 2004 inside R. Kelly’s private residence, The Chocolate Factory was a highly private, two-studio recording facility located at 1 Maros Lane in Olympia Fields, Illinois, United States. The name was not unique to this property: Kelly’s earlier workspace on North Larrabee Street had also been called The Chocolate Factory before recording operations shifted to the basement of the Olympia Fields mansion. Designed as a self-contained base for writing, production, and vocal recording, the tightly controlled compound paired its basement studios with an indoor pool, game room, cinema, and boxing ring. Trial testimony places the Olympia Fields operation between roughly 2004 and 2010. After Kelly lost the property to foreclosure, Rudolph and Elaine Isley purchased and extensively renovated the mansion in 2013, ending its use as Kelly’s private recording compound.
