DEAN’S LIST HOUSE OF HITS
Overview
Dean’s List House of Hits was Mike Dean’s private New York production studio, operating from a SoHo apartment loft from 2003 into 2018. Rather than functioning as a publicly bookable commercial complex, the space served as Dean’s personal base for producing, programming, recording, mixing, and finishing projects with a close circle of collaborators. Its main room combined a dense collection of analogue synthesisers, Moog equipment, sequencers, keyboards, and outboard processing with modern digital recording and mixing systems. The apartment-based layout enabled Dean to move directly between writing, sound design, overdubs, and final mix work without the divisions of a conventional studio. The facility was credited on major 2010s Hip-Hop and Pop releases, including projects from Dean’s extensive work with Kanye West and his collaborators. As Dean increasingly based his work in Los Angeles, the New York studio ceased to be his primary workspace; the Dean’s List House of Hits name subsequently moved to his later Los Angeles operation.
