PLATINUM SOUND RECORDING STUDIOS
Overview
Platinum Sound Recording Studios opened in Midtown Manhattan in 2000, founded by Wyclef Jean and his longtime production partner Jerry “Wonda” Duplessis. Created to support their expanding work beyond the Fugees and Refugee Camp circle, the facility developed as a full-scale commercial studio for Hip-Hop, R&B, Pop, Reggae, and vocal-driven production. Its multi-room layout combines dedicated tracking, writing, mixing, and production spaces with a deliberately private, artist-friendly working environment. Studio J is centred on an 80-channel SSL 9000 J console, while Studio K uses an 80-channel SSL 9000 K-series desk with custom Augspurger monitoring. The rooms integrate large-format analogue consoles and outboard equipment with contemporary digital recording, editing, and immersive-audio systems. Platinum Sound has remained active as a commercial recording and mixing base, accommodating both Jean and Duplessis’ own projects and outside artists requiring high-capacity vocal production, live instrumentation, programming, and final mix work.
