SUN MOUNTAIN STUDIOS
Overview
Sun Mountain Studios is a private recording, mixing, and production studio in Boiceville, New York, overlooking the Ashokan Reservoir in the Catskills. It was founded in 2008 by producer, arranger, multi-instrumentalist, and film composer David Baron after the closure of Manhattan’s Edison Studios, which he had co-owned with Lenny Kravitz and Henry Hirsch. Located across two floors of Baron’s home, the studio offers a deliberately secluded setting for focused, project-based work. Its technical identity centres on Baron’s extensive collection of vintage analogue synthesisers, tape machines, keyboards, microphones, and orchestral instruments, alongside contemporary digital recording tools. The studio reflects Baron’s production approach: combining electronic textures, live performance, and orchestral arrangement rather than adhering to a single genre or recording method. Sun Mountain has hosted sessions for many legendary artists and remains active as Baron’s primary Hudson Valley workspace.
