THOMAS CROWN STUDIO
Overview
Created in 2007 by multi-Grammy-winning producer Timbaland with extensive technical input from his longtime engineer Jimmy Douglass, Thomas Crown Studios was a private, 6,756-square-foot recording and post-production complex located at 5239 Challedon Drive in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Designed by the Walters-Storyk Design Group, the two-story destination facility contained three production studios, a double-height live room with multiple isolation booths, lounges, a commercial kitchen, and two acoustically treated guest bedrooms. Studio A operated as a powerful analogue-digital environment centred on a 72-channel Neve VR console, Yamaha DM2000 desk, Pro Tools HD systems, custom Augspurger monitors, and Studer tape machines. After Timbaland transferred his primary operations to Miami, the property was listed for sale in 2018 and purchased by engineer Josh Haddad in March 2019, ending the Thomas Crown era and beginning its operation as Virginia Beach Recording Arts.
