WOW SOUND
Overview
Wow Sound was the name given to a private bedroom recording setup used during the creation of The Avalanches’ debut album, Since I Left You. Established inside a Melbourne apartment in 1999, the home studio remained active until the project was completed in early 2000. Far removed from a conventional commercial facility, the space consisted of a bed, dim lighting, a desktop computer running early audio software, a hardware sampler and an extensive collection of second-hand vinyl records. The fictional studio name was associated with Darren Seltmann, who worked alongside Robbie Chater under the production name Bobbydazzler. Within this domestic setting, the pair catalogued, edited and assembled thousands of samples and loops to create the densely layered sound of their critically acclaimed, multi-platinum 2000 album.
